Privacy, photographs and discretion online
Agree before sharing messages or images, and protect personal information while making introductions.
Share personal details gradually
A new conversation does not require your full name, workplace, home address or personal telephone number. Keep early exchanges on the platform when possible and review photographs for location clues. A video conversation can help introductions but does not guarantee identity or trustworthy intentions. Do not send identity documents, banking details or access codes to somebody who has only recently contacted you.
Agree on information sharing
Ask before forwarding messages, adding someone to a conversation or posting a photograph. If an account is shared, explain who can read its messages. Privacy preferences may differ, so discuss them without promising absolute secrecy you cannot provide. Never record or publish another person’s image, voice or dating activity without permission, including when contact has ended.
Recognise pressure and suspicious requests
Pause if a contact demands money, gift cards, a verification payment or account access before a meeting. Urgency and affectionate messages do not make a request trustworthy. If private material is used in a threat, stop sharing more information, preserve relevant messages and use the platform’s reporting options. Where a financial account is affected, contact the relevant service through its own established support channel.
